History of Villa Quaranta

This ancient building goes back to the second half of the eighteenth century and was built by the noble family of Barons San Severino Quaranta who enriched it with refined halls decorated with frescos, and a prestigious, noble staircase. The villa reached the height of its splendour at the end of the nineteenth century thanks to its owners, Baron Francesco Severino Quaranta and his wife Adelaide De Peppo, who decided to open a "Garden Theatre"; in its beautiful gardens. This wonderfully elegant coffee house and concert hall soon became popular with many nobles and the rich middle classes because of its splendid position overlooking the sea. This "jewel" was often praised by Matilde Serau in the articles which she wrote in "Il Mattino". In fact she defined it as "the happiest, most joyous
place that could ever be imagined". Its tradition of hospitality was consolidated for the whole first half of the twentieth century with a wonderful, well-equipped bathing establishment, one of the first in this area which attracted bathers from near and far to its beach.
